Taxi Drivers Retain Attorney Mark E. Goodman to Address Regulatory Concerns and Permits

Attorney Mark E. Goodman of Capes, Sokol, Goodman + Sarachan, PC has recently been retained by an association of taxi drivers in Kansas City, MO for the purpose of advising and assisting them to improve their operational base and communicate with local regulatory authorities.

Goodman also currently represents an association of taxi drivers in Charlotte, NC, which is opposing a Request For Proposals (RFP) issued by the Charlotte/Douglas Airport Authority. This kind of RFP has the potential for creating a “concession” for taxi service, which would result in the elimination of a substantial number of positions for airport taxi drivers.

In the Metropolitan St. Louis area, Goodman represented a number of airport taxi drivers and companies and successfully negotiated a contractual arrangement between these companies and the St. Louis Lambert International Airport. This contract is currently in place.

“There is a common theme for airport taxi drivers,” explains Goodman. “Taxi companies often charge drivers onerous fees for the privilege of driving taxis. Yet, many of these drivers own their own vehicles and have to pay all expenses including maintenance and insurance.”

Goodman has sought to work with authorities to allow the drivers to form their own companies, thereby eliminating the fees and allowing for superior service for airport customers provided at a lower cost. The new contractual arrangement in St. Louis has been viewed as mutually beneficial to the traveling public and the taxi drivers.
